Arizona Fall League rosters were recently announced, and the Pittsburgh Pirates will send eight prospects to the league. Of those eight, there are three that stand out as some of the Pirates’ more notable prospects, and ones fans should follow along with this offseason.
Jhonny Severino
The Pirates acquired Jhonny Severino at the 2023 trade deadline from the Milwaukee Brewers. It was a one-for-one exchange, as the Bucs sent veteran first baseman Carlos Santana to the Brew Crew. After struggling in 2025, Severino broke out in 2026 at High-A Greensboro, batting .256/.306/.524 with a .357 wOBA and 100 wRC+.
Known for his power potential, Severino smacked 31 home runs over 474 plate appearances, while posting an isolated slugging percentage of .268. He was one of only 23 batters in the minor leagues this season who went yard at least 30 times. Severino also showed some baserunning prowess, going 16-for-20 in stolen base attempts. The only downside to his season was his plate discipline. He walked at just a 7% clip, with a 68.8% contact rate, and a 29% called-and-swinging strike rate.
Severino has shown plenty of versatility. This year, he split his time between third base, first base, and left field. It is the first time he has gotten an extended look in the grass, and he has shown the arm strength to play an outfield corner. He also has over 500 innings at shortstop, and over 200 innings at second base. Severino is currently ranked as a top 30 prospect in the Pirates’ system by MLB Pipeline. A solid showing in the Fall League could also improve his chances at earning a 40-man roster spot, as he will be Rule 5 draft eligible this offseason (if a Rule 5 draft occurs).
Easton Carmichael
Easton Carmichael was the Pirates’ third-round pick in 2025. They selected the backstop out of the University of Oklahoma. Carmichael had a quality first minor league season, slashing .287/.339/.486 with a .362 wOBA, and 107 wRC+ between High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona.
Although Carmichael only walked at a 6.8% rate, he also only struck out 16.9% of the time, with a solid 77.8% contact rate and 23.8% CSW%. He also showed off some power, with 20 home runs over 484 plate appearances and a .199 isolated slugging percentage. Carmichael also flashed some speed, swiping 13 bases in 19 attempts. He was one of just six minor league catchers with 20+ dingers and at least a dozen stolen bases.
Carmichael’s season put him among the Pirates’ top ten prospects on MLB Pipeline and Baseball America. A strong showing in the Arizona Fall League could only help his rising prospect status. He could make his MLB debut sometime in 2027 if he keeps progressing like he did this year.
Wyatt Sanford
Wyatt Sanford was taken in the second round of the 2024 draft by the Pirates. The high school middle infielder showed promise in 2025 between the Florida Complex League and A-Ball Bradenton, but took a sizable step forward in 2026. In 363 plate appearances, Sanford slashed .282/.417/.546 with a .428 wOBA and 144 wRC+.

Sanford blasted 19 home runs while running an isolated slugging percentage of .265. On top of that, he swiped 33 bases in 35 attempts. Sanford walked at a 14.3% rate, but had a worrisome 30.6% K% and 62.9% contact percentage. He has primarily played shortstop throughout his minor league career so far, but has over 300 innings at second base.
Sanford has the most prospect notoriety of any player the Pirates are sending to the Arizona Fall League. Both MLB Pipeline and Baseball America rank him as the Bucs’ fifth-best prospect. BA even once placed him among their top 100 prospects at one point during the regular season.
