Am I overreacting? I think not.
Why do we even have this thing? Is it to celebrate how good a player was in half a season? How does that make sense? Do we even hold ourselves accountable to that pathetic standard?
Apparently not. The Pirates had more All Star snubs this year than…well, it was a lot. And I’m not surprised. Our franchise has been historically disrespected not only by other MLB fans, but just in general by the rest of baseball. “Okay, it was cute when you made the playoffs for three seasons after losing for 21 straight years. Now go back to the basement.”
But this time makes me sicker than normal because my ass was in the jackpot! I put it all on the line to get these guys to the All Star game. I’m sorry I didn’t get you guys there. I know some players will drop out and we may get a one or two buccos to sneak in, but that’s beside the point. You deserved it, and I failed you.
How does a second baseman, who has twenty homers and sixty rbis not make the All Star team? How does a starting pitcher who’s performed better than the teammate who got selected (both should be there) not make it? Where’s B Rey? Where’s O’Hearn? You could make an argument for Cruz who’s still second in the NL in steals. What about the young bucco?
This is blatant discryinzination. Personally I don’t care to take it lying down. On behalf of Lowe, B Rey, O’Hearn, Big Brax, Oneil, and The Revelation (Konnor Griffin’s nickname that everyone at PNC has been using) , I am issuing a challenge to the winner of the All Star Game to face our snubs in a game after the mid summer classic. We can pick up some snubs from other teams to fill out the roster. (Not from NL Central)
If half season merit means nothing anymore just turn it into a “baseball celebrity” game. Take this as an attack on everyone not named Paul Skenes that made the team; You stole a more deserving player’s spot and the honorable thing to do is relinquish your position. They are too honorable and classy to say it so I’ll say it for them.
Even this may not be enough to make a change to this broken concept. I think these players playing in October instead of mid July would be far more impactful to baseball’s attitude towards our team. But robbery is robbery.
